I have a strange problem when i got the new version and installed it over .16. I can play with myself in the server but when i spectate or play with other people it just loads then closes. It doesn't give me any error messages either. 
edit: i can play but can't spectate.
You are most likely trying to play with people who are using 9.16. The release was yesterday, so not everybody has it yet
The other issue is that spectating (if a match was already in progress) is broken on the server right now.
unc0rr is waiting for the server to be more idle before restarting it.
