PAotH Strip # 1
Star sometimes can strike disaster by drinking something.
NOTICE: This Comic Project may go on Hiatus sometimes, mostly because I'm busy and stuff,
but don't worry, I will most definitely resume it sometime in the future. Please don't ask why the Comics have been delayed, thank you.
PAotH - Short for Planetary Association of the Hedgehogs, PAotH is a division of Bipedal Laboratories, specializing in all things to do with space.
Bipedal Laboratories - A huge organization on the cutting edge of science, and parent organization to PAotH. Here many new scientific devices are invented.
(Hover mouse to show more information, lore and trivia)
Star - The main character of the series, Star, is a carefree young hedgehog astronaut-in-training. He is fascinated with adventure and space, but his laziness hinders him a lot. Star wears a green helmet with two red stripes and a star in the middle.
Moon - The head of PAotH orginization, Moon is pretty much Star's opposite. He is hardworking and diligent, but can't help getting angry at Star's shenanigans. Moon wears a blue helmet with Earth's moon on each side.
Sun - The inventor of the Portal Gun, Sun works for Bipedal Labs and PAotH. Although she works mostly for Bipedal Labs, she does work with Star on some big projects for PAotH. Sun wears a yellow and orange helmet.
Toast - The newest worker at PAotH. Toast is an extremely bright, optimistic and carefree. Unlike Star, she cares a lot about her work, but her wacky sense of humor can frustrate the others. She wears a helmet with red, blue and yellow stripes.
Comet - Comet does a lot of the behind-the-scenes work for Bipedal Labs and PAotH, such as engineering the rockets for space launches. She wears a grey helmet with a comet streaking across the side.
Earth - A PAotH member who specializes in combat. Wears a green camoflauge helmet,
Jupiter - Also specializes in combat. Wears a tan camoflauge helmet.
Pluto - Also specializes in combat. Wears a light blue camoflauge helmet.
Unnamed Characters - various unnamed characters appear in the comics, like other members of PAotH and Star's friends. Unnamed members of PAotH have helmets covered in a starscape.
(WARNING: Past this point are spoilers for the comic! Please read the comics first if you don't want spoilers!)
Wheatley - A personality core created shortly before the robot invasion of Earth. Through time travel shenanigans, he also happened to be behind the robot invasions.
Corrupt Cores - Corrupt cores are cores that have weird personalities, and tend to be obsessed with one thing, like the orange eyed core obsessed with space. Due to their quirks, they are unfit for operating machinery.
Personality Cores - Cores are spherical AI robots that are designed to complicated technology like the TARDIS or Bipedal Labs' Mainframe.
TARDIS - Stands for... I don't actually know. It can be used to travel through space and time with ease. However, it is extremely complicated to pilot, and requires a core (or Moon, one of the few hedgehogs who can pilot it by hand).
Bipedal Labs Mainframe - Exists only in the future. It's controlled by a core and is used to create test chambers and run other processes in the laboratories.
Portal Device - Also known as the Portal Gun. Is used to create wormholes so you can travel between point A and point B with ease. Invented by Sun for the purpose of inter-planetary travel.
Robot Invasions of Earth - There are two robot invasions that happen thoughout the comic. One happens during Star's first coma, and one happens in the future.
When Wheatley was left on the worm planet, he managed to convince the worms that the hedgehogs needed to be destroyed. Thus, after the events of the comic, the worms invaded Earth using robots that they built with the help of Wheatley's technology. They also installed a communicator in Wheatley so he could communicate from a distance. When he traveled backwards in time, he used this communicator to contact them and set off the first robot invasion as well. Because he was an idiot, he didn't seem to realize that this would eventually set about his demise.
Star's Death - In the future, Wheatley was surprised to see Star, and mentioned something about a pit of fire. This is because, during the second invasion, Wheatley had executed Star in a pit full of flands, which he called the pit of fire. I'm still considering whether or not I should actually include this (and the second invasion) in the comic, but if I do, it would have to be the definite end to the series.
Magicant - Magicant is the realm that your dreams take place in. During Star's second coma, he had vivid dreams of Magicant. In those dreams, it was filled with monsters, which represented Star's desire for adventure. By fighting those monsters, he managed to satisfy most of his desires for adventure and clear his head
so that he realized how many mistakes he had been making over the years. Of course, Star would still love a good adventure every now and again, as it was expressed that he hadn't completely fought off all the monsters. Instead, he just managed to control them so that they weren't overwhelming his mind.
PAotH began as a comic I drew on paper as a kid, and later, as a comic I made in paint. However, I eventually abandoned those versions when I learned how to use Photoshop, and then created the current iteration of PAotH, with over a hundred comics.
Although I've claimed otherwise before, I'm pretty sure I came up with the concept for PAotH after I found out about Hedgewars. I have a pretty bad memory...
So far, Star is the only character whose real name (Samuel) is mentioned in the comic. Although not mentioned in the comics anywhere, Sun's real name is Caroline, Toast's real name is Madeline, and Moon's real name is Andrew.
Thoughout most of PAotH, Comet and Sun have essentially been interchangable, due to the fact that they have very similar personalities. This is the reason that Comet was replaced with Toast. In universe, Comet was transferred fully to Bipedal Laboratories and Toast was hired to compensate.
The design for Toast's helmet was originally the design for Star's helmet, which he wore in the original paper comics of PAotH. I ended up using this helmet for Toast because I couldn't find any other hats that I thought worked, and I didn't feel like drawing a new one.
The reason Wheatley can fly when he was first introduced was because I mistakenly believed that Wheatley could fly in Portal 2. Honestly, I cannot remember what lead me to believe that.
Comic 1 was based off of the first comic of the MS paint version of PAotH. No matter how many times I look at it, the original is always funnier to me. Also, the date the comic was posted (March 26th) is Star's birthday.
In Comic 8 the punchline was originally something along the lines of "Were you the one who ate all my cookies?" but it was changed when my brother suggested what it says now.
Comic 11 although I didn't plan this when I made the comic, Star must've been wondering around Bipedal Laboratories.
There is a bazooka shell in the top of comic 12. This is there because I was originally planning on ending the ark differently, where there were enemy hedgehogs trying to attack Star.
Comic 16 the binary code in the background says something along the lines of "Hedgewars version 9.16". That might not be exactly what it says, but it's as best as I can remember.
Comic 18 was originally supposed to have the health crate animated, but I couldn't get it to work right for some reason.
Comic 20 is my least favorite comic, one reason is because it introduces a continuity error. Later it was established that Sun was the inventor of the Portal Gun, but in Comic 20 Sun (who isn't wearing a helmet) has no idea how the Portal Gun even works, despite the fact that she's supposed to have invented it.
During the first visit to the Worms Planet, the graphics are based off of screenshots from Worms: Reloaded. The second time the Worms Planet is visited, the graphics used were sprites from Worms: Armageddon.
Comic 24 uses the font Times New Roman instead of Ariel. Just a mistake.
Comic 29 the punchline was based off of saying one of my old friends liked to say.
Comic 33 was actually originally Comic 32. This was because I realized that the joke in Comic 33 didn't actually work without actually establishing where they were going.
As is established later, Star's injury in comic 42 isn't the cause of his coma, it's just slapstick.
Comic 54 should be "asteroid belt" instead of "meteor belt" because there's no such thing as a meteor belt.
Comic 57 the Space Core can be seen floating around outside. Between comics it was ejected from the ship.
The Targeting helmet shown in Comic 60 is from the original paper PAotH comics.
Comic 69 Star is holding the Sonic Screwdriver in the last panel, so when it appeared again in Comic 76 it didn't come out of nowhere, it was just in the TARDIS and Star had carried it around the whole time.
Comic 71 the panel with the TARDIS warping through space and time was actually a screenshot from one of the Doctor Who openings. I was originally planning to spoof Doctor Who in that ark but I decided to go back to Portal 2, hence Star's first comment in comic 73.
All the Portal objects are drawn by me from scratch, except for the Portal Gun which is taken from Hedgewars, and the mainframe in Comic 76, which was taken from official Portal 2 artwork and edited in Photoshop.
COmic 77 Wheatley mistakenly believes it was Star who turned him into a sling and abandoned him on the Worm Planet. This is because he's an idiot, and it's been over a hundred years since that actually happened (from Wheatley's perspective).
Comic 100 the videogame Star is playing is Terraria. A Zombie and a Demon Eyeball from Terraria can be seen outside the window.
Comic 101 originally the first panel was me explaning that I wasn't actually ending the comic, and the previous announcement had been a joke. I later replaced this and took the joke comic announcing that the comic was ending off of the website, although it can still be found in another persons' post.
The TF2 based ark was originally supposed to last a lot longer. I abandoned it once I decided I wanted to stop doing major spoofs of other videogames.
Magicant is taken from MOTHER/Earthbound Beginnings. The 8-bit hedgehog sprites are edits of the original Hedgewars sprites and the monster sprites are taken directly from Earthbound Beginnings. The sword Star wields is based off of Marth's sword Falchion, from the game Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon.
Comic 114 the background seen outside of the window is actually official artwork for Xenoblade Chronicles X. Yeah, I'm kind of an RPG nerd.
