Hello everyone and merry Christmas!
I thought that it could be fun to have hedgewars ported on the wii, like world of goo is.
It would be funny to play it on wii, and it could help hedgewars to be better known too.
I really don't know how hard it is to port hedgewars on wii, but it's just an idea.
What do you think about it?

have a nice day!

Smile

Of 'course it's possible to port it to the Wii, as it is to do for the PS3, XBox360, PSP, iPhone or Zune.
Just takes time and... before anything else, would it really even be even wise at all to think about porting this before the game ever reaches version 1.0 ?
Especially because the console updates are FILLED with BUREAUCRACIES and sometimes extra costs too.

This also means that a console version (PSP, Wii, PS3 and X360 would probably be paid, even if just 1 or 2 dollars)

Oh and as good news an iPhone version is already being cooked.

Well, there is linux version, and it is possible to install linux an PS3, X360 and Wii, few people say that it is possible to install linux on PSP(but it barely works), so I guess, that you could install linux on your console, and try to compile hedgewars, but this way there wouldn't be any support for wiimote, that would require additional coding, but there is linux Wiimote driver, so it should be possible to get Hedgewars working on Wii even with wiimote.

while doing the iphone port i also gathered some intelligence about the wii port. Here's what i've found

- SDL: luckily enough all sdl libraries have been ported for native use on the wii. That one big step forward as they are essential requirements
- FreePascal: the second piece of the puzzle is the compiler, which is _not_ present for the wii. An initial work has been done but then dismissed due to the lack of interest
- PowerPC: until version 0.9.12 hedgewars doesn't render properly on big endian architecture. Only recently this issue has been fixed and full powerpc support is expected for 0.9.13

So the absence of the freepascal compiler is a big showstopper for us -- the only hypothetical solution would be to setup a powerpc linux bootup that loads a linux-powerpc hedgewars version, much like OperTyrian does. However this has its own limits and i'm not sure it can be done so trivially.

So our hope is that the developer that was behind the wii freepascal port resumes its work, you could send him an email [francky74@gmail.com] to convince him doing so Smile

Fiouh! This might be a little complicated. I will try to look for some explanations to do this if I have time.
I'm unable to code at this time, I'm not able. I was asking the port on the wii, and if this could interest the developpers to do it, and players to have it.
It seems that it's not for tomorrow. I hope one day. Smile

ps : sorry for my bad english...

TBH I'm not a big fan of most "homebrew" ways to get selfmade console games into the consoles. Unfortunately the only official (and quite open) way to achieve the same is using XNA for the XBox 360 (which would require a rewrite in some .NET language). They don't support native apps/games - same as with Nintendo and Sony.

However, there's a "shortcut" if you really want console feeling in hedgewars and you want it now:
Connect your PC (or notebook/netbook) to your TV and plug in some gamepads. 0.9.12 introduced gamepad support so you should be able to use them to play the game. The controls might still be a little bit confusing due to the way "default" controls work and you still have to use a mouse in frontend.

On my own, I have tried to use a wiimote on my computer. It's nice, but unusable for a game like hedgewars. So if I have to play hedgewars with my computer linked to my TV, with these wiimotes, it really won't be so nice as if it was the game totally ported on the wii (simply moving the finger on the screen, "right click" with B, and hegewars is playable on wii). And buying gamepads if I already have a wii... I'm not cresus Smile , no, the problem is that to play hedgewars, you must use the mouse, and a gamepad will make it very slow to play.

I would love a PS3 version since i has one ;p PLZ spare the PS3 + Linux thing... I've the 250 Slim.
I don't think it would be hard to play, since i sometimes even browse the web using the ps3 and the cheapo TV it's linked to for now...
I am willing to pay and / or donate If anyone cares about that kinda port.
I have already paid for my favourite PSone classics, the Driver, and Crash Team Racing (yaaaay!!), not mentioning the PS3 games, so why not hedgewars?
I won't hesitate if I see hedgewars at PS store for something like 3 - 5 pounds... someone said 1 dollar, so... i have about 2 dollars change left on my account, so why not use it?

Heeeey! Is this post already dead?! How could you do that? I mean! Now the Wii it's too cheap, and if you port it there and appears in Homebrew Browser, Hedgewars will be really awesome there! Why is no one thinking in the posibility uh?

As you mentioned PS3 linux, did anyone tried to play hedgewars on ps3 linux? I am curious if the performance is ok. As far as I know PS3 linux runs in some kind of virtual environment. Anyone?
