translating hedgewars, a few ideas

Hi guys, i think that translators should also translate things like credits and map names(I mean names like "volcano" or "lonely island"); it would be nice if we translate every possible word in the game Smile. I thought about it and in my opinion the best way would be to add those extra things to translate to .ts file.

The question is, is it possible? I am not a programmer so I don't know what can be included in .ts file. If credits are in one separate file it's not so bad, not so uncomfortable to translate. The second thing are maps, as far as I know map names we see in game are names of map folders. So how should translators translate it? Write patch that will change names of those?

I think that translating would be much more comfortable if things like weapon names and other things form file en.txt(or pl.txt etc.) are included in .ts file. As I said before, I do not know if it's possible. Please let me know what do you(developers and other translators) think about those ideas.

I like this idea for maps, but IMHO weapons are in another file because in game it's better use it in this manner. I'm not one of the developers, but I think it's for in-game efficiency. Isn't it?

Well... what should I say:

  • .ts files are used by Qt4 to translate program's strings, it's quite difficult to use them for translation file/directory names
  • .txt files used by engine is just a quick approach for i18n. The engine doesn't use Qt4, so it cannot make use of .ts files

    We could create a file with different associations of the directory, when game looks for the map names it opens this file and according to the i18n it looks the right 'column' and insert the right name. For example the file could be like this:

    DIRECTORY EN IT
    share/Hedgewars/Data/Maps/Volcano Volcano Vulcano
    share/Hedgewars/Data/Maps/Lonely_island Lonely island Isola deserta

    and so on...

    I think it's worth using XML instead cfg for map so you can have :

    Volcano
    Blabla
    
    Volcan
    Volcano
    Vulcano

    Good idea, but then we need a xml parser for pascal I think.
