It's here! Hedgewars 0.9.13 Released!

It's been a long time in the making, but it's finally here (if a few days late). We'd like to thank everyone who's contributed to make this the most polished, the most exciting and the most fun Hedgewars release ever.

There's a lot to see, so either read the changelog below or simply head to the download page now and grab it!





Below is a summary of the new features, this is not a complete changelog

    Lua scripting allows the easy creation of missions and special maps. Examples of this can be seen in the Knockball and Basketball maps, that are now scripted

Didn't see "new explosion effect" in the feature list.

"45 degree bounce for grenades" - What does this mean? Shouldn't the bounce angle be the angle of incidence?

TheCycoOne, sheepluva can talk to you more about this, but detecting arbitrary angles w/ pixel based system is rather tricky and something he's still fiddling with.

The 45 degree check is reasonably reliable though and didn't break player expectations too much, while still allowing fun stuff to be done with girders and angles close-ish to 45 degrees.

Apart from that, should work as a true bounce.

PS: I'm starting to play around in the area of physics (simulations mostly) so hopefully soon I'll be able to give a hand in the physics-part in Hedgewars (bouncing angle for example Smile).

Hmmm I suppose not as they don't apear to be there. Maybe they just weren't stable as of yet and therefore taken from the release.

hi, first off, gread job on the new versions, i wanted walking sounds since i installed the game. :o
but did i see right that you cant turn down the music of the menu? dont get me wrong i like the song, its just a little to loud.

exelent job!!! (you miss the "dragon ball" hats ( and saint seiya Big Grin))

loved it! my family and i sat around the computer and played it all day after downloading the source and compiling it (karmic 64-bit). great job. my wife actually told me i can donate money to the cause now;) amazing.

Heh, shame she didn't let you do it sooner, we could have included a custom imnotsonic hat.
oh well.

m4rcus, you can turn off frontend music separately if you're tired of it, in options.

Some bugs that I found it:

* When I use mine air attack, has no associated sound.
* When I write in the chat (in game) if I want to delete all text, I must press delete for each letter, and I can not hold to delete everything quickly(in 0.9.12 was the same thing).

Excuse for my bad english :P .

phyro, hit esc to erase all text in chat.

both of those are feature you want, not bugs...

the 45° should refer to the angle of slope the grenade is colliding with (so e.g. diagonal girders are meant), not the bounce angle Wink Smiley

Great release Big Grin especially been waiting for AI to start using all the weapons, they weren't much fun in 9.12

found a bug though:
when you select a knock-ball or basketball game types, it doesn't put a weapon set in, and won't let you play until you go into the weapon editing bit, click save then go back

EDIT:
figured out this only happens if you've created a weapon set and used it before you try to play knockball

Hmm, maybe you're right. Now that I read nemo's post, I realize that he meant the angle between girders etc. At first I thought that he meant that no matter what the angle of the slope is, the grenade always bounces off at 45 degrees.

btw The 3D-feel of the water is superb. Include the distant background and it really feels 3D. Smile

When I start the game, it says "Engine could not be started: 1". The menu appears, but I can't start a game. (I have the Mac OS version, running on 10.6)

EDIT:

OK, I fixed it:

1. get the latest XQuartz from here:
http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/X112.5.0

2. install it

3. open Finder, press CMD-SHIFT-G and enter /usr/

4. copy the files from /opt/X11 to /usr/X11 (overwrite)

5. log out and in again

> it works

Well, I prefer the squeaking of Worms instead of this sound. But nevertheless, 0.9.13 is great!

I have been playing this for a while and I have to say that this is the best release yet.

I never thought that you could ever add and improve so much things in one release.

Really jelous as I can't get it working on my mum's (mucked up) ubuntu so have to wait till I get home and back to my ( suprisingly more stable) arch Linux.

I want to install the game in ubuntu 10.04 (beta), but it doesn't work. when I enter cmake . in the terminal, i get this error:

CMake Error at cmake_modules/FindLua.cmake:14 (MESSAGE):
Couldn't find Lua 5.1 library!
Call Stack (most recent call first):
hedgewars/CMakeLists.txt:6 (find_package)

Do you have Lua 5.1 installed? This dependency was added between releases.

sudo apt-get install liblua5.1-dev

how much days take getdeb before updating version?

if i remember right the rope had a sound too, but its missing in .13 8[

There's never been a roping sound, nor an airstrike *sound*
however the hedgehog "Incoming" speech has vanished.

I'll look into that to see who removed it and why.

Adding an airstrike sound would be nice. Smile Something like the hooter before air-raid. Smile

I don't think there is one.

Also: I started scripting (I wrote the SniperRifle training mission) right before release and discovered that some of the scripting functions are bugged or just missing resulting in many limits for what you can do.
And as the scripting implementation wasn't my code and release was about to happen I only dared to fix that hats work so that the sniper hog has a sniper hat xD

So if you are really into scripting I'd recommend waiting for 0.9.14 or to stick to the commands and how they are used in the existing scripts.

EDIT: made it more fair and true after Smaxx confronted me and made me remember better XD

Is it just me who can't edit or create teams. The buttons are greyed out?

I found one bug.

I'm using 1680*1050 resolution on my computer and when i put hedgewars to full screen mode and hedgewars resolution to 1024*768 everything is OK until i quit the game.

my screen looks like this after quitting the game in lobby:

and i cant see the whole hedgewars screen.

I didn't have that problem in previous version.

I have Vista business SP2 and Dual Core E5300 / 4GB RAM / Radeon HD 4650

That's a known bug with Qt/SDL fullscreen interaction.

Simple solution for now: Don't run the frontend in fullscreen (see options) and this shouldn't happen.

Lua scripts:
I've started some documentation some days ago but it isn't finished. Look in the training missions for some commented example code.

Suggestion for next version: easy-to use hat maker.

@BarthVader: It's not the problem of tool, but your abilities to create something good. you can use Inkscape which is a great tool.
