Hello World, KarBoy2314PL here, and this is my own voice. pack. Well, its not originally my voice, but, ive heard a lot of polish voicepacks, but majority of them were from another game, or from somewhere else. So what i did, is i made it on my own. Here a sample of them: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/ad85xzbv99xty05/MadeByKarBoy2314PL.ogg

Download is now within My Team Customization package available in my Creations thread in my signature.

Enjoy, and as always, thanks for reading.

Thanks. I don't speak a single word Polish, but I generally appreciate voicepack contributions.
I have installed this file and decided to keep it.

I tested your voicepack. Overall it's ok, but sometimes it's hard to understand what hogs are saying. You should make the voices more clear or something. Or they speak too quickly, I'm not sure. But it could be improved.

I just have a bad mic and you have a better one than me.

Terror and KoBeWi: I may try re-recording some texts again. But now, time matters.

It's much clearer now and you can actually understand them. The voices sound a bit strange/awkward though (at least comparing to English ones), but maybe it's just me.
Good job anyways.

I didn't expected that fast of a reply!

The awkward voice it may be just my voice itself, or my mic. Thank you.

Since 0.9.23 is just around the corner (hehe), I'd like to nominate this voicepack to be included with Hedgewars. I used it for few months already and I like it very much. Not sure about others, but personally I think it's good enough. There's no better alternative for Polish voices anyways, and since this one works, there's no reason to leave it.
(that's of course when author allows it to be in Hedgewars officially)

Yeah, considering to add new voicepacks makes sense to me.

So I have reheard the voicepack. While it is still better than the previous version, the sounds still sound like they spoken through radio or a walkie-talkie. This is meh.

Stupid.ogg varies too much in volume and also appears to have minor clipping issues.
The volume seems to vary a lot between different files as well. Compare Missed.ogg which is never over 55% and Victory.ogg which goes all the way to 100%.

I seem to hear some machinery (?) in the background. I don't know if its actually an actual machine, but there's definitely some background noise that doesn't belong there. This is notable with headphones and appears to affect all sounds. The noise is not too loud, but it's still there.

Some sounds appear to have clipping, probably caused by a too loud input signal. But it there only seems to be a very small effect, so this may be even excusable.

Maybe all this can be fixed just by some additional processing, esp. normalization. The background noise may be more difficult. I hope you have still the original files (not lossy compressed) around.

I wonder what sheepluva would say about this.

Hi there! I decided to record my own Polish language voice pack for Hedgewars. It's my own voice with some modifications (including speed-up). You should be able to download it from here:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1SfbHWe42VdOBzCZZMlcykp1RW5mwj60j

Also, I would like to record some additional Polish voice sets with 'foreign accents', like Soviet, US marine and so on, so please, let me know if you are interested.

EDIT: The content under the link was updated according to what was written in later posts.

Your voicepack has very good quality, but you should work a bit on tone/pitch. It doesn't fit the game's voice "style".

Yup, You're probably right. However, I'm not sure if this is a matter of pitch. I mean there is also difference between Classic, British and Mobster in example, but each of them sounds somehow thinner than mine. Of course, it may go thinner when pitch is increased in audio editor, but this can make it too high in comparison with other ones. I'll try to record it once again, but lower and slower, so more speed-up or tone-up could be done in the program.

Here's a version with increased pitch:

The direction might be correct, but I think it should start from lower tones.

EDIT: Now, under the link above you can find corrected version of the Polish voice-pack (recorded again and edited). I think it's much closer to the original sound sets, but perhaps the acceptance criteria of my ears are not as strict as they should be, which is why I need your opinions.

Fantastic work! This is genuinely the best Polish voicepack this game ever had D:
Let's wait to see what devs have to say, because to me, it can be made official. I also take back what I said about TheMadCharles' one, because it had one ultra annoying sound that plays very often in 0.9.23. Also, the overall quality was inferior.

My general attitude was to have a lower bar for localisations since otherwise we'd never have any. It does sound better yeah, even if I don't understand it. If you like it, I'll add it.

The only technical thing is if possible could you match the gain of existing stuff, I haven't checked the gain of this pack yet, but there was one of the localisations I had to re-encode 'cause it was waaaaay off from everything else - using the pack would have blasted your eardrums at first.

WRT recording, did you read Armagon's writeup on how he made the voices by any chance? But yeah, I think it amounted to good recording + speaking slowly so that the sped pitch wouldn't be too chipmunky.

Very nice to read it. Yeah, I was aiming for something that could be a part of an official release. I will wait with recording additional sets until final decision regarding this one is made.

I played the game with my headphones on. There were 5 teams, each using different voice pack: mine, Default (en), Classic, British and Mobster. Some phrases could be a little bit louder, but definitely not that loud. I'm thinking about 'Illgetyou.ogg' and maybe 'Justyouwait.ogg'. I can lower the gain of course, but I'm really not sure if there's a need to do so.

No. But I will look for it. Maybe some tips will be helpful.

There's also a knowledge base page on packs, but I doubt there's anything new there. (apart from importance of case sensitivity I guess)

Yeah, the experience is similar to my own. But instead of covering myself with a blanket I put my microphone in the wardrobe with some clothes and bedding inside. The effect is quite good.

Oh, I didn't know about the 'voicepack_language' mechanism. Thanks! If the set is approved as official, then I believe it should be renamed to "Default_pl".

EDIT: After few more plays I decided to decrease a little the volume in 'Incoming.ogg' and tune-up the last 'k' phone in "Enemydown.ogg" and 'Firstblood.ogg'. The same goes for 'p' phone in the beginning of 'Traitor.ogg', which now may sound somehow strange when played separately, but in the game it's much better.

Another thing is that I changed the name to "Default_pl". The download link is the same. Smile

Ok. Great. BTW, you wouldn't happen to be able to do a direct download link, could you?
Many times when I remember to add/review something for Hedgewars I'm not in a situation to conveniently execute javascript.

@mtg90pl: I just downloaded your thing. Nicely done! Your new voicepack sounds very clear. I think it's of very high quality and pretty much instantly sounds like it is already official. I was not able to spot any obvious mistakes. I don't speak Polish, however, nor am I an expert. But I like it.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your time! Smile

Only two minor oddities I noticed. It's the short silence at the beginning of Flawless.ogg and Victory.ogg. Is there a reason for this. AFAIK no other voicepack does this. It's nothing serious and might not even be a problem at all.

Do you intend to make further updates to your voicepack or are you finished? Because I was asked by nemo to include your voicepack. You will, of course, be credited in Hedgewars as “mtg90pl”. But I want to be sure to not catch you off-guard.

Finally, I have a complaint: Please, the next time you contribute something new, please don't hijack other people's threads. Just open a new thread.
I almost overlooked the fact that this thread actually contains TWO completely different voicepacks from two different people. Sad Smiley This is very confusing.

Yes. This is related to my own experience with the game. After the last successful attack two sounds are played - "Enemydown.ogg" and "Victory.ogg"/"Flawless.ogg". I don't know if other people met the same issue, but in my case the second sound appears in the middle of the first one. That's why I decided to add silence in the beginning of those two, so the first phrase can end before another one is played. Of course, I can remove the silence.

Wuzzy allegedly wrote:

If the silence is not a problem, then I'm done with this voice pack. But, as I mentioned in my first post here, I'm about to record some additional ones, like Russian_pl (Polish language with Russian accent) and maybe few others. Are you interested?

Understand. I just didn't want to duplicate the topic. Title "Default_pl" seemed to fit very well what I wanted to present.

Thanks a lot anyway! Smile

This is an old bug.

Please remove the silence since it is used as a workaround for a bug. I try to this bug.

Of course, I'm looking forward for more voicepacks (as long you use new threads for them). Smile

By the way, do you still have the lossless version of your files? They might be useful in the future.

The content under dropBox link should be updated. Now there is no silence. Smile

I exported the sounds from AudaCity project directly to .ogg files. I kept the project, but I'm afraid that it contains some earlier phase of edition. Last few operations were performed on already exported .oggs., so I do not have the final version of the voice pack in lossless format.

Sad Smiley

EDIT: I think I remember what operations were performed exactly at the end, so if there'll be a need I can repeat them in the project. However, this is really time consuming so for now I will just write down the missing steps to the final version.

It is a very good idea to always uses lossless format until the final render.

The Polish voicepack “Default_pl” by mtg90pl has been added into official Hedgewars!

Thanks a lot for your contribution! You're been credited in the CREDITS file.

The other voicepack by TheMadCharles has NOT been added.
@TheMadCharles: I recommend to re-release your voicepack under a different name, to avoid confusion.
