Roy is not as stuck as you think :P
If he had moved to the right and then turned left (only tap the left key for a very brief moment, or better: hold left shift to make sure you turn around without making a step) then he could have jumped out of it with a high back-jump (two times backspace)

Yes a tutorial mission would be very cool for new players and stop threads like this from materializing.
