It was included in a computer magazine I used to buy. The first release they included didn't really interest me, but as I could see further Hedgewars releases over the years I eventually started following the game on my own. Being a fan of Worms helped here.
I started playing games on this really old computer (well, it wasn't old then, but anyway), and one of the games my dad had installed for me was Hedgewars (he was a Scorched Earth fan). Problem was, I was six, and really the only games I played on it were Tic-tac-toe and whatnot. I started playing, had no idea what was going on, and went to go play with my toy trucks instead. Years later, I learned how to play, and it's one of my favorite games to date!
My dad at 2018 installed Hedgewars on our computer and I started playing. On 2019 I made an account and I was playing on servers.
Sorry for any errors, i from Russia .
I am addicted to HedgeWars. I found it by accident in 2010 in Ubuntu's software thingy and since then have been addicted to HW. I used to play Worms way back in the day (Windows 98 era). Hedgewars actually seems better than Worms and Wormux, much more polished and as a Sonic fan this is just heaven having pink (rather than blue) hedgehogs battling for forts. What I like the most is being able to create your own weapon and schemes so you can do crazy things like launch numerous watermelons on the basketball image map while invulnerable and blow everyone else up while being unharmed, just silly things like that as well as the usual default artillery warfare. I think that Baseball is my favourite mission. I am glad that 12 years later it’s still going strong. My other interests are Secret Maryo Chronicles, a port of Super Mario and Midtown Madness 2 among many others.
I just was browsing a Sonic themed site I used to frequent as a child called Mystical Forest Zone, since apparently it went back online again in 2021. On the "Links" page there was a big fat button for Hedgewars, which is probably how I found this website.
We had some local web network in Yakutsk, and there was a gaming community. That's how I found out about Hedgewars! They even had IRC channel for it, IIRC, and we had some fun.
I found Hedgewars while reading Wikipedia about the Worms World Party game (somewhere in 2011's year) and I found a list of clones including Wormux and Hedgewars. I tried the first game, but it looked too cheap. Then I tried Hedgewars (it was version 0.9.16), and I started to like it. I was the most active around the year 2013. At that moment I was a student, and I had very bad English knowledge, and, playing net games on Hedgewars and joining IRC chat started to be a small kick to learning English better. I do play Hedgewars sometimes now, but not so often as in the past. But I still do like this game a lot.
My dad had installed it on an old computer some time ago, but I knew about Hedgewars before then, and I was aware that it was rather highly rated on Ubuntu Software Center. I didn't really know much regarding what the game was actually about, though. Sometime after I got it installed, I got into playing it and found the game to be rather enjoyable. Now I am delighted to finally be taking part in playing public servers.

And this is why the Internet is awesome. One random link on a random and completely unrelated website and BOOM!
And this website looks really old, it gives me real flashback vibes. And the webdesign literally the opposite of responsive. But to be honest, hedgewars.org isn’t exactly better in this regard.

Darn it, it’s a shame Hedgewars has been nuked from the English Wikipedia (for now).
I guess the only way to get it back is to either become famous (to be “notable” enough for the mainstream media) or pray to the Great White Hedgehog the admins change their mind.

This is an outrage. I hope they'd think for a second that Hedgewars is one of those popular Linux games before ignoring its existence.

Yum
A long time ago (probably around 2010), while searching for some free Worms game,
i have never been disapointed by hedgewars, free worms, or as i prefer : a worms like game, not a clone, an 'inspired by' game
On my fingertips.

Haha, unC0Rr, funny as always. :P
(For those that don't know: unC0Rr is the one that started it all! Without unC0Rr, there would be no Hedgewars. )
Hi, I am a Hedgewars developer.
I was looking to play a Worms game, I discovered Hedgewars as a suggested alternative or as a clone.

In the package manager on Raspbian. I was just browsing the games section, and I had seen a friend playing Worms. So, I marked it for install.
May God be with you, Always.
